What are "Natural" animal products?

Most of the meat, poultry, dairy products, and eggs available in your grocery store come from animals that were raised in large confinement facilities where they were fed grain-based diets and treated with a variety of drugs. By contrast "Natural" products come from animals that were raised on high-quality pasture on small family farms (like us!). The animals are not treated with hormones, feed additives, or other unnecessary drugs, so their products are healthy, wholesome, and natural in every sense of the word.

Why choose "Natural" products?

Raising animals on pasture is not only the natural way but better for the animals, the farmers, and the environment. Just as important, natural products are better for your health. They are lower in total fat and calories but richer in "good" fats such as omega-3 fatty acids, the cancer fighting fat, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and key antioxidants, including vitamins E and beta carotene.

When you switch from force-fed feedlot animals to natural fed animals you instantly create a more nutritious, wholesome diet. First of all, you eliminate a lot of "bad" fat from your diet. When cattle are raised on pasture, their meat is naturally very lean. For example, sirloin steak from a natural fed steer has about one half to one third the amount of fat as a similar cut from a feedlot steer. In fact, natural fed meat has about the same amount of fat as skinless chicken or wild deer or elk. When meat is this lean, it actually lowers your LDL cholesterol levels. Because natural fed meat is so lean, it is also lower in calories. A 6-ounce steak from a naturally-finished steer has almost 100 fewer calories than a 6-ounce steak from a feedlot steer.

Although naturally raised meat is low in "bad" fat (including saturated fat), it gives you from two to six times more of a type of "good" fat called "omega-3 fatty acids." Omega-3 fatty acids play a vital role in every cell and system in your body. People who have ample amounts of omega-3's in their diet are less likely to have high blood pressure, an irregular heartbeat and are 50% less likely to have a serious heart attack.

The meat and milk from naturally fed ruminants are the richest known source of another type of good fat called "conjugated linoleic acid" or CLA. When ruminants are raised on fresh pasture alone, their milk and meat contain as much as five times more CLA than products from animals fed conventional diets. CLA may be one of our most potent defenses against cancer.

In addition to being higher in omega-3's and CLA, meat from naturally fed animals are higher in vitamin E. In humans, vitamin E is linked with a lower risk of heart disease and cancer. This potent antioxidant may also have anti-aging properties.


Our lambs are raised on pasture for ten to twelve months. Lush pastures provide a "pasture salad" of clovers and grass that lambs need to grow to a flavorful finish. We then finished off by adding a small amount of grain to their diet to texture and flavor our freezer lamb. Freezer lambs are raised up to 120 lbs. to provide small and tender, succulent chops, racks and legs. Larger lambs are available upon request.


The farm's pastures provide the perfect feast for our boer goats. Goats are excellent foragers. Raised on nature's bounty of multiflora roses, thistles, and berries, they help the environment and us by keeping pastures groomed. The Boer is an improved goat which is bred primarily for meat. Did you know that goat is the most widely consumed and healthiest meat in the world. Goat meat has 40% less fat than a skinless chicken breast. Goats are naturally low in body fat, with only 51 calories per ounce. A four-ounce serving of roasted goat meat contains only 85 mg of cholesterol.


You can tell the difference between an egg from a pasture raised hen and a caged hen. Pasture raised eggs are lower in cholesterol and higher in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins. Crack open a pasture raised egg; the yolk stands taller and is brighter than sunshine! Fresh LOCAL eggs are available most of the year.


Our beef is raised on grass for approximately eighteen months. The result is a much leaner, nutritious beef that is healthier for us to consume. Of equal importance, we feel, is the cows' quality of life. Our cattle are all given lots of room to exercise. We care for, and allow your beef all the freedom of a small LOCAL farm allowing it plenty of pasture to roam with high quality grass to eat. Our pastures include a mix of legumes and grasses that are all perennials and the cattle love it. This makes for happy, healthy cows. During the dormant season for the grass, our cattle are fed our high quality hay which is grown, cut and baled by us. While finishing, we feed your cattle corn grown by LOCAL farmers. We have it milled LOCALLY, thus EVERY dollar of your meat money is spent right here within your community.
